What is the purpose of American literature – why study it
Unit 1: Unit 1 (June 13- June 19): Introductions and Course Navigation – Journal
Guidelines: Respond, in essay form, to the following questions:
• What is “literature” – how do you know it when you see it?
• What makes literature “American”?
• What is the purpose of American literature – why study it?
Your essay should be a minimum of 500 words and should convey
your honest wrangle with these questions — write from your experiences
and opinions. That’s what I’m interested in: your experiences and opinions. No research is expected; if you do include research, be sure to use your sources fairly. See “Using Sources Fairly” at DocSharing/Course Documents.
