In this week’s lesson you will explore social cognition, schemas, and social thinking.
Now that you understand a little more about social psychology, using the resources below, further explore the concepts of social cognition, schemas, and social thinking.
On-ground students only: Have a class discussion on Social Thinking & Social Cognition.
View the video on Schemas
On-ground students: Break up into groups of 2-3 and identify and discuss a few schemas to compare/contrast.Online students: Give personal thought to a few schemas to compare/contrast or discuss them with a friend, family member, or colleague.
Think about a particular schema you have developed. Then, mentally compare that to a completely different schema. Compare and contrast the differences between the two schemas.
Some schemas to consider are eating out at a sit-down restaurant; riding public transportation; being in the classroom; going through a drive-thru window (feel free to explore others).
Prepare a 250-300 word explanation that answers the following three questions.1 – How would you explain the relationship of schemas and social
cognition?
2 – How are your identified schemas different?
3 – Why are schemas, in general, useful?
